Hi, everybody,

I used to post here regularly, my grandson is autistic. So I keep an
eye on current research, and I thought you all might be interested in
this:

http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2013-12/uoca-rla121813.php

It isn't the first study I've seen that shows a link between gut
microbiome and manifestations of autism, but I thought it was pretty
interesting.

The article mentions the Autism Microbiome Concortium, so I googled it.
It appears they don't have a webpage (no surprise there) but the hits
that resulted looked very interesting.

I know a lot of people had serious doubts about the 'leaky gut' theory,
but this may explain some of the observations that gave rise to it.

Best,
Chak

Hi Chak,

Interesting article.

I wonder what people here think: are our microbes part of us?

I think probably not because they could live without us (though we could not live without them).

Another article worth reading is
http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn19011-gut-bacteria-may-contribute-to-autism.html

I think the most recent study comes from a journal called Cell.
http://www.cell.com/abstract/S0092-8674(13)01473-6

Interesting work, but I think the jury is still very much out on the
subject...
