My feeling about autism is that they demonstrate a super awareness and indifference. After reading so many parents on twitter with autistic children this indifference serves them well as most of the parents are rather middle of the road thinkers, under the influence of the autism speak of the "authorities".I prefer the "specific superior abilities" approach which I heard at Joseph Wolpe's Behavior Therapy yearly meeting for presenting papers.

Testing will find what they excel at. then that environment is provided. Or better yet read Oe, the great great Japanese writer of our time, whose son was autistic. He quit writing to understand. Music. His son is now a well known composer living his own life. Perhaps Mozart was the same?

The American structured for idiot rote approach to everything is killing creativity in everybody.

I also believe autistic thinking is a way of thinking that is evolutionary. "The minds that have gotten us in this mess are not the minds that can get us out of it." - Einstein, a loose quote.

I'd prefer "honesty" to "indifference" for a term, it's more positive ;)
And as for 'middle of the road thinkers', there's a more *honest* term for
that - NONTHINKERS...since that's such a common part of 'neurotypicality'.
And just one of the really Cool things about autism is that Questioning so-
called 'authorities' is so common - I've been doing it literally for my
entire life.

Yes indeed - they're also referred to as "autistic skills", and since those
without autism are so often referred to as "neurotypical", I prefer to
refer to autistic individuals as "neuroexceptional".

I'd prefer a simpler approach, taking the time to discover what they excel
at, as they may discover it too, and then providing that environment - oh,
wouldn't that be just wonderful? I sure wish it had been done for me!

I'm a musician/singer/songwriter and have no doubt that autism is an
awesome asset to creativity.

It's Nihilism, plain and simple, and actually very Un-American, since this
neither this country nor any other, could Ever have been Founded by Idiots,
only DESTROYED by them, and that too, is a common part of
'neurotypicality'. The most innovative, best creativity comes from
nonconformity i.e. being 'neuroexceptional' i.e. autistic...and I'd NEVER
want to be 'cured' of That - AND WOE BE TO ANYONE WHO'D TRY!

I wouldn't so much call it evolutionary as REVOLUTIONARY! ;) as in, the
kind of breakthrough thinking that results in all the amazing things that
would never exist if everyone was 'neurotypical'.
