To my brothers and sisters also struggling with Autism/Asperger's,
please read this:

My family and I are only days away from facing homelessness. I have
never been in this position before, the emotional and psychological
stress and circumstances that have lead us to this point are numerous.
So please excuse my clouded state of mind in this time of desperation.

The home and property, in which we have raised our family for the past
16 years, has been foreclosed upon and we must vacate immediately.
Despite being generally resourceful people, always finding a way and
persevering, this particular combination of adversities has brought us
to a critical impasse. My mother owned (along with the bank) this
property before succumbing to Gallbladder Cancer. The enormous medical
expenses, left in her wake, has made it impossible for us to save it.

Caring for my mother, during her illness, intensified my struggle with
Agoraphobia and Asperger syndrome, derailing my efforts to succeed as a
film composer and rendering me literally housebound since. (Agoraphobia
and homelessness are a truly terrifying concept to consider!) In the
interim, my wife has lost her job due to debilitating Migraine Headaches
(physician diagnosed) exasperated by our current burden. My son, who
lives with us, is the only one with a meager income at the moment.
Unfortunately, we also discovered another hurdle... Because of an
apartment lease he shared with his ex-fiancée and her mother - after he
moved out free of any further obligation - they remained living there,
for months afterwards, and created a $2,500 rental bill that they
stiffed and must be paid before we can be approved for any apartment.
In light of this major glitch, first, last, security, administration,
pet deposits (we have two cats who are family to us), and moving/storage
expenses - we are facing an increasingly hopeless situation. The
apartment we had spent considerable time lining up, is now hanging in an
insurmountable balance - with diminishing time and money being our
ultimate foes.

With these opposing circumstances culminating, the state of the economy,
and intermittent minimal income at odds... we have exhausted all of our
viable resources and options. Having pawned and sold off most
everything of value to just survive up to now, we are depleted with no
savings to fall back on. We have no further credit or collateral to
secure any loans. Believe me, we have tried all avenues to do it on our
own. We've seriously arrived at a dead-end, regardless of our every
concerted effort and avoiding public assistance or disability benefits.

I am reaching out to you, ignoring my pride, as one last hope. We are
the type of people who have many many times opened our house to family
and friends in need, so they could get back on their feet again - even
if that meant financially supporting them when we, ourselves, had little
to spare. So I am asking my family, friends, sisters and brothers of
the Internet and beyond, to please consider helping us out in this
urgent time of need. I have humbly set up a website (link below) to
accept donations of any size (nothing is too small, everything helps)...
providing you are willing and able, if not, please do wish us well in
your thoughts and prayers. We can offer you nothing in return but our
love, eternal gratitude, and your knowing in your heart - that you
helped us also get back on our feet again. Thank you so much for your
time and generous consideration.

Sincerely,
Joe Wright

Please help us out here:

For anyone who is wondering about this, I have clicked on this website, and it appears a genuine and reputable website set up to enable people to donate (although it levies a charge of 5% of the donation).

Mr Wright is based in the United States, but I think the site accepts credit card donations which would allow the currency to be converted. At present I am also undecided if I will donate so have not explored the website further.

My sense is that this is a genuine appeal, so although I would not normally donate to something I do not know I am going to think about it for a day or two.

The reason for posting this is that we get a lot of spam on this newsgroup, but I think this is something real to consider.

Mr Wright - if you are reading this one question I have is: if you raise the amount you are seeking, will you have to raise more money in a few months time? Does this go any way to solving the problem or does it just buy you some time?

Being a cynical NT, my immediate thought was to offer him a family size
cardboard box (and a smaller one for their cats). You are far more patient
and compassionate than I, Dolphy. I'm looking forward to the results of
your research.

I have seen similar spiels on other newsgroups, pitched like this one
to the specifics of the group. From the responses of others who have
been longer on those groups, I take it that this is a professional
begging site & the featured people do not exist.

That is quite possible, and why I am thinking about it.

If it is professional begging, I think it is well done (nothing struck me as suspicious) so I am open minded to the possibility that it is genuine.

As an update, if you click on the website you can see that Mr Wright has been updating it with progress. This looks more likely to be genuine to me. I also note that he has received a lot of donations. That suggests that there are people who know him who have been contributing.

Of course, it could still be a scam. A beggar will usually put his cap out with some coins in it to make it look like others have donated. Perhaps there is a whole group of them who do this and donate to each other. However, they would lose 5% each time to the website organiser so I doubt it would be very profitable.

I assure you I am real and genuine. I am not a scammer, I'm just in a
desperate situation, thus my plea. The past few days have been
seriously crazy and I cannot reply as I wish I could. Please give me a
few days to fully respond to you all. But in the interim, check my
links, music, Imdb, Youtube, Twitter, and Facebook etc. - I am truly
real and not doing this with any motive other than my world is now
crashing upon me, and as I stated in my message... my family and I have
always been resourceful - to the extent of fully supporting others
during their need. This time though, we ran into a bad mix of
circumstance that, despite our most determined efforts, has lead us to
asking for help (which is not my style). I appreciate you all giving me
the benefit of the doubt, but please, if you feel at all uneasy about
helping us out financially - don't do it. Instead if you can keep us up
in positive thought or prayer, that means a ton as well. Either way,
anything helps and we appreciate you all regardless!
